After all the previous fails from Google, the new invention Google Glass is not looking very promising either. People who are currently reviewing the product are not giving out good reviews. People who have received Google Glass for reviewing are not satisfied with the high estimated product.
According to many bloggers and other reviewers Google glass has many problems that needs to be sorted before Google can think of rolling it out to the public. According to many bloggers glass is still in the raw form and cant be used as a daily life gadget like a cellphone.
Elites of the technology world have rated the Google glass as the next big thing in the history of innovation. As the glasses are the best virtual reality has gone till now. But it surely cant fascinate the normal users that Google is trying to market.
Google glass is surely a thing of the future, but its nowhere near the thing a common man can handle and use at ease. According to many bloggers, the glass has many perks and cant be used continuously for hours.
The battery life on that thing is just pathetic. Engadget estimated a 5 hours battery life, but a majority of other reviewers have said it to be way less than 3 hours. Which is clearly something that can’t be tolerated when the glass is supposed to be worn all day.
The glass is said to be inducing headaches when worn for a couple of hours. One can see clearly what can be causing the headache. The screen in the glass is present only on one eye which creates a distorted image and causes nausea and eventually a huge headache.
The glass has a small screen which is actually a prism projecting the screen to the eye. The prism uses the total internal reflection theory and was made transparent to allow the user to view their front without the glass being a distraction. But the scree is so dull that it becomes very hard to see it in a bright light such as of the sun.
Which definitely is a problem.
Till now no voice recognition system is so powerful that it can recognize every bit of the words that come out of the speaker, so how can we expect Google glass to recognize the words clearly.
We have seen the glass activating itself in the middle of a conversation, even when no body said “Ok Glass..” which is the default command to activate the glass.
This will definitely be a problem when a user is speaking to a person and glass starts a video, because it thought it heard you say something.
The glass doesn’t allow you to change any settings, not even the volumes and the display brightness, can’t re-arrange the application cards in the interface or set their order, can’t modify the default screen timeout length and you can’t go into a silent or do not disturb mode.
The Google Glass doesn’t have a cellular connection so it needs your smartphone’s data connection to connect and work. Which will not only increase your data charges and bills, but will also drain your cell’s battery at a faster rate.
A simple goggle can be folded and can be kept easily in a pocket or something else like a pouch. But Google glass is one piece and cant be made or folded to any smaller form. The continuous titanium band does looks nice and is flexible too but is not bendable.
The refractive display on the glass is extremely fragile and Google makes it clear that it should not be touched at all. Google does provide a microfiber carrying case, but after the glass is kept inside it, the package becomes way too big to carry. So you will need to carry a big bag just to keep your glass safe.
It is found hard to dictate messages to the glass and it is a night mare if you are doing this in a public area. And after all of this it is not possible to do “Backspace” on Google glass. You have to re dictate the whole message if you want to either change it, or if glass makes a mistake.
Theses flaws can surely be fixed by time with the rapidly developing technology new software and hardware being released every second as we speak. But currently Google glass is not worth buying. Surely the people who have won the right to pay for the glass are satisfied, they will never tell you they wasted $1500 on a piece of glass they don’t even like.
There is actually nothing that can be considered exciting about the glass. And despite of the huge list of problems people are still praising the glass, its just:
